Terms of use
Rook is a bot, an automated account, for Discord, the chat app. Discord communities, called servers, add Rook to check people who join them. Rook is made and run by Sirius, a small business in the UK (sirius.menu). By adding Rook to a server or verifying with it, you agree to these terms.
What Rook does
Rook checks new members of a server, keeps out accounts that break the server's rules, and tells the server's moderators (the people who run it) when an account looks like a second account of someone, or of someone the server has banned. Moderators can overrule any decision.
Servers that turn on Ban Beacon share their bans with other servers in it, as the privacy page explains. For that sharing, the server and Sirius are joint controllers: the server decides to join, whom it bans and whether matches keep people out, and Sirius decides how the sharing works and answers members' requests about it. Members can bring any request about Ban Beacon to Sirius.
If you run a server
- Only add Rook to servers you manage, and use it to keep your server safe.
- Tell your members that the server uses Rook, for example in your rules channel.
- Treat what Rook shows you about members as confidential to your moderators.
- Don't use Rook to harass, track or expose anyone.
If you verify
Verify only your own account, and don't try to get around Rook's checks, its limits, or its security. The privacy page explains what Rook keeps and your rights.
Availability
Sirius runs Rook with care but can't promise it will always be available or catch every account. Sirius may change or stop the service, and may remove Rook from servers that break these terms.
Liability
As far as the law allows, Sirius isn't liable for losses caused by using Rook, by decisions moderators make with it, or by the service being unavailable. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow to be limited, and it doesn't affect your rights as a consumer.
Changes and law
Sirius may update these terms and will post the new version here. The laws of England and Wales apply. Questions go to privacy@rook.bot.
