Alt detection

Find alt accounts in your Discord server.

When someone verifies, Rook checks whether their connection or device matches another member's, and tells your staff whose alt it is. It works from keyed fingerprints, so no IP address is stored.

What counts as a match

  • The same browser: a cookie Rook sets on the verify page.
  • The same home connection. Rook allows for flats, schools and phone networks, where many people share one address.
  • A similar device, from some of its settings. Two people can own the same model, and Rook allows for that.
  • A recent ban: a newcomer whose name or picture resembles a banned account is flagged for a look.

What happens to an alt

  • By default it's let in, and your staff log names the member it matches. You can choose to keep alts out instead.
  • An account that matches a banned member is kept out, and a moderator can let it in with a click.
IP addressWhat Rook stores
Each server gets a different fingerprint, and the address isn't kept.

Questions

Can Rook catch an alt on a VPN?

VPNs are blocked by default, so the alt has to verify from its real connection. If a server allows VPNs, the browser and device checks still apply.

Will it flag my siblings or flatmates?

Rook allows for shared homes and networks. If a match does come up, the default lets them in and tells staff, who can see it's a sibling.

Does Rook keep IP addresses?

No. It turns each address into a keyed fingerprint, different in every server, and drops the address.
