Frequently asked questions

How does Rook find alts without keeping IP addresses?

Rook turns each address, a cookie in the member's browser and some of the device's settings into keyed fingerprints, and drops the originals. Two accounts with the same fingerprint used the same connection or device. Rook allows for shared networks and for different people owning the same model of device.

What happens when Rook finds an alt?

It's let in, and your staff log gets a message naming the account it matches. An account that matches a banned member is kept out, and a moderator can let it in with a click. You can change both in the dashboard.

Can banned members come back on a new account?

Rook links a new account to the banned one when they share a device or network, and keeps it out or tells staff. It also tells staff when a newcomer resembles a recently banned account. Someone who changes both device and network can still get in, as with any bot like this.

Is Rook a Double Counter alternative?

Yes. It verifies members by link, detects alts and ban evasion, blocks VPNs and alerts staff to raids, and it never stores IP addresses.

Will locking the server lock out my members or other bots?

Not unless you choose that. With Keep them in, Rook gives everyone already in the server the Verified role first. Bots always get it, now and when added later. The verify and rules channels stay visible.

Does Rook block VPNs?

Yes, by default, along with hosting networks and Tor. You can allow them. iCloud Private Relay is always allowed, because Apple shares each address among many people.

Can members see or delete their data?

Yes, with /rook privacy in any server with Rook. Records from a server they're still in, or banned from, are kept until that ends.

Is Rook free?

Yes. Verification, alt and ban evasion detection, raid alerts, scam protection and linked servers are free for every server. Rook Plus, $4.99 a month per server through Discord, adds Raid Autopilot, member lookup, alt checks across linked servers, your own name and look for Rook, your own verify domain and priority support. Nothing free will move to Plus.

Where is Rook hosted?

In the Netherlands. Rook is run by Sirius, in the UK.

Where can I get help?
